This is a character journal for the RPG Fiery Inception. Obviously the world of Harry Potter belongs to JK Rowling; the character of June Connors is my own creation, so please ask permission if you want to borrow her. =)

The Basics

Bloodline: Unknown, though her relatives who raised her are Muggles, so she is at least of mixed blood if not Muggle-born.

Political View: Aligned with the Order

Appearance

Height: 5'4"
Weight: 125 lb.
Eyes: Once brown; ~~now~~ for three years sealed closed with scar tissue; now blue, with a tracery of white scarring around them to show where much worse scars used to be.
Hair: Strawberry blonde, ~~medium length, with long bangs~~ short & tousled.
Build: Slender, on the underweight side; not muscular, but very fit
Dress Style: Prefers Muggle-style clothing, as that’s what she grew up with. Robes don’t give her enough freedom of movement, and impair her ability to sense her surroundings. She typically wears black jeans with black ankle boots and various plain tops, to save herself having to worry about matching her clothes. ~~Most of the time, she wears dark sunglasses over her ruined eyes; while working out or if she knows she will be fighting she prefers to tie a strip of cloth over them.~~ Now that she can see what she's wearing, she has more variety in her closet, but she still leans toward comfort and practicality. She has zero interest in fashion.

Defining Marks: The big one, of course, is her face. Her eyes, browline, and the upper part of her nose are ~~a mess of scar tissue~~ marked with a maze of faint scar lines, souvenirs of deep claw marks that disappear into her hair on either side. One claw scored a line down her cheek as well. Her habitual glasses can’t hide most of the marks, but they do cover the most disturbing part of it, which is of course her eyes themselves, and she wears her bangs deliberately long to cover her forehead. At a quick peripheral glance she might appear normal, but there’s no way to miss the damage when looking directly at her. Other parts of her body are marked with numerous (less dramatic) scars.

Personality

Juneau has a strong soul. She decided long ago that getting upset over things she can’t change is a waste of time, and that the only reasonable response to a bad situation is to get up and do what she can to make it better. She doesn’t consider herself an optimist so much as a realist. What is, is, and it’s pointless to feel sorry for oneself – a waste of time and energy that should be spent trying to improve one’s situation. It’s made all the difference in the world to her to have this attitude; with all the ways fate has kicked her down over the past ~~six~~ eight years, she keeps picking herself up and finding new ways to make the most of the hand she’s been dealt.

She has powerful protective instincts and a fierce temper. Rarely roused on her own behalf, it’s quick to flame when she sees someone else being treated unfairly, and she doesn’t easily forgive an abuser or a bully. She has a clever and sometimes overly sharp tongue, which can get her in trouble if she’s not careful, which she often isn’t. Though her disability has forced her to learn a little more caution, anger or determination can still cause her to jump in where angels fear to tread, in true Gryffindor fashion. She lives by instinct and passion and refuses to fully accept limitations, even when she probably should.

No longer being able to fly is what bothersed her the most about her blindness.

Psychology

Extrovert/Introvert: Extrovert as a general rule
Boggart Would Be: Since a boggart is pretty much a visual phenomenon, they can’t really affect her. She may feel a cold wind, smell blood or hear screams, but it would have to be a very strong boggart to fool all her other senses into believing that it’s real. Though she hasn't encountered one since her vision was restored, her boggart would take the form of an enormous, snarling, wild-eyed black werewolf - Fenrir Greyback, lunging for her with claws and fangs bared. This was the last thing she saw while his pack were tearing her apart, before he ripped out her eyes.
Patronus Would Be: Her Patronus takes the form of a sparrowhawk. A relatively common sight in Norfolk, where she grew up, the sparrowhawks inspired her to dream of flying long before she found out that such a thing was possible. Capable of great speed and maneuverability in flight, the sparrowhawk is also a flexible and very single-minded and persistent hunter, much like June herself when her temper is roused.

Sexuality

Bi-curious. She finds (or found) both men and women attractive in their own ways, and figured it was a little stupid to cut one’s chances of finding someone special by limiting oneself to one gender or the other. Before her disfigurement she experimented a bit with both. Since then, between adjusting to her new circumstances and dealing with her part in the war, she hasn’t sought sexual or romantic company, though she rather misses it now.

Lifestyle

Occupation: Almost completed Auror training, but was kicked out when she became a werewolf. Tried to find another job, with no real success, and finally took a position waiting tables in a Muggle coffee shop. This job was also lost when she lost her eyesight, so now she ~~has no real employment~~ works for Severus Snape, preparing the viewers and occasionally helping out with his classes or other personal projects.
Residence: Lives with Severus, Remus and his other recruits at Spinner's End.
Financial Status: ~~Poor as a church-mouse. Basically she lives on her savings and tries to make the money her parents send once a year stretch as far as possible.~~ Her uncle or her cousin would certainly help her, but they aren’t wealthy and she refuses to ask them unless the need is absolutely desperate – which, by her reasoning, it hasn’t been yet. Particularly since now she has lodgings that cost her nothing and a steady salary, she's been able to contribute to household expenses and still put away some savings in Gringott's.

Family

Parents: Absent all her life. When she was six months old, they left her with her father’s cousin while they “went on holiday,” and they basically disappeared. She receives an owl from them with a letter and some money once a year around her birthday, but there is never any indication of where the owls are being sent from, and after a while she stopped caring. If they don’t think about her except once a year, she reasons, why should she think about them any more often? Her father’s cousin, Jeremy Byrne, has been a father figure to her, and his daughter Caroline like her older sister. No one knows whether her parents were wizards or not; her adopted family had no idea of the existence of the wizarding world until June got her Hogwarts letter.
Siblings: Actual blood siblings? It’s possible. She has no way to know if her parents have ever had any more children, or what may have happened to them if they did.

June couldn’t ask for a better family than the one she has, which is part of why she doesn’t bother worrying about her absent parents anymore. Though shocked by the news that June was a witch, her “Uncle Jer” and Caroline have been amazingly supportive, helping her deal with the lycanthropy as best they could, readily taking her back in again when she returned to them blind. It’s largely because of their support that she’s able to keep picking herself back up and returning to the world, returning to the war. And it’s because of them that she could never have accepted Greyback’s offer of a place in his pack once she realized it would mean siding against Muggles and the Muggle-born.

History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time

Juneau entered Hogwarts in September of 1986, and turned out to be a very Gryffindor Gryffindor. She got along with nearly everyone, except the Slytherins of course, and did well in her classes if not extraordinarily. She was a Chaser for the House Quidditch team under Charlie Weasley, though she quit after her OWLs year, feeling she had better focus more on her studies if she wanted to get into the Auror program. And though she never went out of her way to pick fights, she figured prominently in a fair number of Gryffindor/Slytherin squabbles in the corridors; she had a true redhead’s temper about certain things, and seeing the Slytherins bullying younger students was definitely one of those things.

Fresh out of Hogwarts, she entered training to become an Auror. Unfortunately, with only about six months left to her training, she crossed paths with a werewolf and was bitten… and like most new werewolves, found herself unemployed by the time she left the hospital. She returned home for a while, but was never able to keep still for long, so a few months later she went back out to look for a new job. In the wizarding world that proved to be nearly impossible, as (particularly as things became increasingly tense and rumors of werewolf attacks spread) all it generally took was one or two “illnesses” at the full moon and she was quickly shown the door. She refused to let it beat her, however, and finally resorted to looking for work among Muggles, where she found a position as a server in a coffee shop. Rather frustrating when she’d so nearly been an Auror, but she kept telling herself things would improve if she just kept her head up.

Shortly after starting her new job, a unique customer appeared in the shop: Glamis, Remus’s second-in-command. Upon hearing what he had to say, she quickly agreed to help them, though she wasn’t in a position to do very much. Not long after, she was approached by a werewolf from Greyback's pack who offered her a place with “her own kind,” a means to settle the score for the injustices and prejudice against her. She put them off for a while, but when Remus fell out of favor with the pack after the night of Dumbledore’s death, she persuaded him that she should try to infiltrate as well. She pretended to accept the offer and was taken to meet with Greyback. But she does not have the temperament for undercover work; she was able to grit her teeth and keep silent while they were railing against Muggles, Dumbledore, and the wizarding world, but during her first full moon with them she blew it. Badly. She got in between Fenrir and a younger wolf he was bullying and refused to back down. And when he took a swipe at her to put her in her place, instinct and her hatred for him took over and she went for his throat.

She barely managed to touch him. And in punishment, she was badly torn up by the rest of the pack, particularly her face, and left in a pool of her own blood to be found by Remus in the morning. The damage to her eyes was too severe to be repaired, and so she lost her eyesight, which was fortunate only in that it spared her the sight of her own face. Though the lower half is untouched except for one scar which runs down her cheek, the upper half is was a mess of scar tissue, her eyes barely visible let alone functional. And once again, upon her release from Poppy Pomfrey’s care, she returned home to Norfolk.

And once again, after a period of rest with her family, she determined to get back up and go back out there. Though undoubtedly Greyback and his followers assumed that what they’d done to her would keep her from ever being able to move against them, what they did was strike a serious nerve in her redheaded Gryffindor soul, and she was resolved to do whatever she could to take them down. So against the protests of her surrogate father and sister, she found her way back to London and presented herself on Remus Lupin’s doorstep once again, ready to help.

Over the three years following her disfigurement, she learned to find the silver lining to the cloud of her lycanthropy. Her other senses have become honed beyond what would ever be possible for an ordinary human, and she can move around familiar spaces with relative ease and even hold her own in a fight. It isn’t easy to take her by surprise, as her ears and nose almost always warn her when someone approaches her, and she places a lot of trust in her instincts. (It's worth noting that both senses and instincts are strongest close to the full moon, as her 'wolf' gets stronger, and she has more difficulties as the moon wanes.) She’s also devised a workout routine for herself which she spends much of her free time on, needing to keep her body healthy, strong, flexible and responsive for whatever might happen.

After the pack moved into Spinner's End, Severus persuaded her to allow him to try and devise a potion to reduce the scars, even though common knowledge said potions wouldn't work on scars left by a lycanthrope. He proved as good as his word, and between his potions expertise and Healing assistance by Ginny Weasley, June's horrible scars were dramatically reduced, and her eye sockets reconstructed until they were able to hold magical prosthetic eyes. The eyes, created by the Weasley twins in the guise of 'Bartel & Jaymesson', have given June back what she never hoped to have again - her sight.
